Did you know that there over a million dogs living in the streets of Costa Rica? Shocking isn’t it.  The Tripod Foundation’s purpose is to help control and prevent unwanted and abandoned animals through education and frequent spay/neuter clinics, offering help with animal health care, emergency veterinary care and adoptions.

Last November my friend Natalie and I were discussing the horrible situation the street dogs were in. People finding bags of puppies in the garbage, seeing starving dogs trying to find food in the garbage only to be beat for it, females so unhealthy they couldn’t produce milk to feed their young. Well, there was one dog we both had our eyes on. He had a badly mangled leg and would not let anyone near him, we were watching him get thinner, mangier, and more crippled every time we saw him. ” Here is one maybe we can help ” says Natalie and off she goes to Dr. Fernando for tranquilizers and food. Well, sure enough gangrene was killing him, there was no choice but to amputate his leg . I brought him home to nurse him back to health and it wasn’t long before the miracle of love tranformed this ferocious street dog into a loyal, loving, pet.  I’m sure you’ve guessed that was Tripod.

 Well, we we’re on fire now, but we paid for that operation how could we keep doing that with out bankrupting ourselves? And Voila!  The Tripod Foundation was born. We had the opportunity to speak with a man who lived and worked in a large private shelter in Colorado and he warned us to be careful. We had to choose realistcally what we could accomplish. After much thought we set our perameters. Now we have our monthly garage sales, a clinic every six weeks, our 2010 calendar is about to be released. This was one busy year.

Now we pray that somehow a benefactor will see the need and help us realize our dreams of a shelter.  We survive on donations and fundraising so, if you can find it in your heart contact us, we are able to accept tax free donations both in Costa Rica and from the United States.
